Oh You Beauty!: Top 5 Goals of the Week 9/15/2014

1) Jeremy Menez vs. Parma

This goal is just something special. Not only does Jeremy Menez beat the keeper like he wasn’t even there, he finishes the move off with a wonderful backheel. Cheeky. It’s a magnificent goal, through and through, and thoroughly deserving of this week’s top spot.

2) Alexis Sanchez vs. Manchester City

This goal is a little unlucky to come in second. Any other week, it would have probably been first. The control that is needed to side-volley a ball and keep it on frame is insane, but Alexis Sanchez is more than capable of pulling that off.

3) Adam Johnson vs. Tottenham

Adam Johnson’s looping run past two defenders before his shot slides past three more Spurs players is almost more of an embarrassment to Tottenham’s defending, but that shouldn’t take away from the skill and close control necessary for Johnson’s goal. He was one of Sunderland’s best players last season and if they want to avoid the drop and make midtable this season, they’ll need a lot more of that.

4) Arda Turan vs. Real Madrid

It’s not every day that you see a goal that leaves the Champions Leauge winners standing stupified. The dummy shot from Koke suckered in the entire Real defense, along with Iker Casillas. As the ball glided into the net, all Real could do was stand and shake their heads. Beautiful.

5) Angel di Maria vs. QPR

There’s always room on this list for a free kick goal. I don’t love them as much as Alexi Lalas does, but I don’t think anybody loves anything as much as Lalas loves a free kick goal.
