VIDEO: Wolfsburg DESTROYS Bayern Munich 4-1

This wasn’t in the script at all. Bayern Munich, the team who mostly comprises of World Cup Champions and has dominated the Bundesliga and Champions League this year, was beaten down by 2nd place Wolfsburg 4-1 today.

The game started off with a tribute to Junior Malanda, the 20 year old Belgian defensive midfielder from Wolfsburg who died in a car accident on January 10. This was Wolfsburg’s first game since Malanda’s death.

Wolfsburg’s first goal came in the 4th minute as the team decimated Bayern’s backline and striker Bas Dost left Ballon d’Or finalist Manuel Neuer dumbfounded to make it 1-0.

Wolfsburg’s second goal right before halftime was a thing of beauty…a slice…a lucky shot? Either way, Dost volleyed it from the top of the box into the upper right corner of the goal to make it 2-0 at half.

Starting the second half, Belgian midfielder Kevin de Bruyne got behind the Bayern backline, timing the pass right as he was about to cross the midfield line and stayed onside to make it 3-0.

Bayern wasn’t completely embarrassed today. Juan Bernat took the rebound and scored his first goal of the season to put it at 3-1 in the 55th minute.

And just as Bayern Munich looked like they were coming back, de Bruyne put those ideas to rest as he scored his second goal of the day eviscerating the Bayern backline once again. Neuer sure didn’t look bored today.

In the grand scheme of things, this is going to do nothing to the overall standings. Bayern Munich is still solidly in first with 48 points as Wolfsburg is solidly in second with 37 points. Bayer Leverkusen is the next team in the table with 28 points. While there is still a half season to go, it very much looks like Bayern Munich is going to win the Bundesliga title and Wolfsburg will celebrate a well earned trip to the UEFA Champions League.
