Everton hired Roberto Martinez after David Moyes left to go to Manchester United. While Moyes struggled at his new team, Martinez thrived with his. While they fell short of Champions League, they did get a Europa League spot. Everton is building their team the right way. They’re being financially stable and Martinez is building players who fit his system rather than just getting big name players. After getting Romelu Lukaku on loan from Chelsea last year, Everton made a rare big buy and spent 28 million pounds for him. Lukaku was the top goalscorer for Everton last season so Everton is obviously expecting more of the same.

The only issue with Everton is that while they are improving their team, teams who are just behind them are improving at a faster rate. Everton isn’t better than the top four from last year and teams like Manchester United and Tottenham are improving so it’s going to be tough for Everton to break into European competition. The good thing is that it looks like fans and the board are willing to give Martinez some time so Everton will be a force in the future.
