John Carver throws just about every Newcastle player under the bus

John Carver loves Newcastle United, there’s no doubt about that. Carver is from Newcastle, played in Newcastle’s academy and has been an assistant coach since 2011. Now that he has become head coach, Newcastle has a 2-12-3 record since Carver took over.

Bad went to worse for Newcastle after today’s game against Leicester City. Leicester took the lead in less than a minute and Newcastle finished with nine players to embarrassingly lose 3-0. The away fans were clearly fed up as well as Carver, who tore into his team in the post game interview.

It is very refreshing to see someone in power be that honest. It’s one thing to think that one of your players (Mike Williamson) intentionally tried to get himself sent off, it’s another to confront him about that after the game, it’s on another level to say what happened on worldwide TV. The only player who escaped Carver’s wrath was Jack Colbeck, who Carver wished he had 11 of due to his commitment.

Carver isn’t immune to criticism, he himself takes some of the blame as what’s going on at Newcastle and says that he’s responsible for what’s going on.

John Carver loves Newcastle and is passionate for his job, the team and the fans but sometimes that’s not enough. You can be the most passionate person for a job but if you don’t have the talent to do that, what good are you?

Some of this isn’t Carver’s fault. It’s clear that players didn’t respect Carver from the get-go and everyone knew when he took over that he was a temporary coach until the end of the season so he wasn’t going to be getting players that he wanted to get.

Add to all that the general incompetence of Mike Ashley as an owner and Carver was never necessarily dealt a winning hand. Having said that, Carver looks like he’s in over his head, he has no allies or people to even show him respect at Newcastle and the situation is getting worse and worse by the day.

If there’s anything that should be learned from the Newcastle situation is to be careful what you wish for. Newcastle fans wanted Alan Pardew sacked for a few years now. Except for that Europa League season, Pardew didn’t necessarily light the EPL up, but he kept Newcastle solidly in mid table and did what he could obtaining players with the limited transfer budget he had.

Now he left to go to Crystal Palace and they’re up in the mid table while Newcastle is on the fringe of the relegation battle.

It doesn’t matter who manages Newcastle, the real problem is Mike Ashley and Newcastle will be in obscurity until he sells the team.
