Oh You Beauty!: Top 5 Goals of the Week 9/29/2014

1) Graziano Pelle vs. QPR

There aren’t too many things better than a perfectly executed bicycle kick. Graziano Pelle gave Southampton the lead by volleying it to himself and then in pure FIFA video game action, bicycled it into the back of the net. Definitely an artistic display and is a candidate for goal of the season.

2) Charlie Austin vs. Southampton

The amount of skill to pull off this move is tremendous. The first touch has to be delicate, the concentration has to be exemplary and the technical and finishing ability must be sublime. Charlie Austin had this on all three counts and if it wasn’t for the fact that a bicycle kick upstaged this goal in the SAME game, we would be talking about this in the #1 spot.

3) Phil Jagielka vs. Liverpool

Jagielka’s goal, while impressive in its own and changed the face of the 223rd Merseyside Derby, was no bicycle kick. I feel like we’ve loved over this goal all weekend so I won’t do it all too much here but enjoy the goal one more time.

4) Eliaquim Mangala Own Goal

Eliaquim Mangala had the finishing skill of Pele on this goal, it was just unfortunate that it was in the back of his own net. In one of the more picturesque own goals of the year, enjoy.

5) Steven Gerrard vs. Everton

The old captain still has a few tricks up his sleeve. With the score deadlocked at 0-0, Stevie G left it to himself to take the free kick and create another memorable goal in the Merseyside Derby.
