Five Reasons the USWNT Will Beat Germany

The USWNT faces off against Germany on Tuesday and it’ll be the biggest test yet for the United States as they go for their third Women’s World Cup win. #1 and #2, this game is literally a toss up and anything can happen on Tuesday at 7 PM ET on FOX. We’ll have our five reasons the USWNT will lose to Germany a little later but here are five reasons the USWNT will beat Germany.

USWNT is playing their best soccer in WWC without Rapinoe and Holiday

The USWNT arguably played their best game against China in the Quarterfinals and they played that game without Megan Rapinoe and Lauren Holiday. Now with Rapinoe and Holiday back, the USWNT should theoretically be even better. Even though the USWNT still has their finishing woes, maybe Rapinoe and Holiday will help remedy that.

Germany’s Knockout Stage is too tough

As we have said before, the German team is facing the toughest road to the Women’s World Cup ever. They are facing the other four top five teams in the world and that may be too much for Germany to get through. They got through Sweden, they got through France but can they get through the United States?

Germany’s injury woes

While the USWNT is over their injury issues as Alex Morgan is healthy, Germany is suffering their own woes. Midfielder Dzsenifer Marozsan has an ankle injury and may not play. It can’t help Germany so the USWNT may be able to use that to their advantage.

The brick wall that is Hope Solo and the USMNT back line

423 minutes. That is how long Hope Solo and that back line have kept people from scoring. The last time the USWNT allowed a goal was in the 27th minute of the first game in the Group Stage against Australia. Like the old saying goes, “Defense Wins Championships.” If the USWNT doesn’t allow any goals, the worst case scenario is a 0-0 draw going into PK’s.

Germany is beatable

Just like the USWNT, Germany has been vulnerable at times during the Women’s World Cup. Germany got out of the gate by easily beating teams like Ivory Coast and Thailand but they struggled to a draw against Norway. Their big test really started in the Round of 16 against Sweden and Germany passed with flying colors winning 4-1. Then in the Quarterfinals, they matched up with France and the third place team in the world took Germany to Penalties. So while Germany is good, they aren’t immortal and they can be beaten.
