U.S. Women’s Soccer Celebration Tour Rolls On To Detroit, Birmingham For Matchups With Haiti; Tickets Remain Cheap

Earlier this summer, the U.S. Women’s National Soccer team defeated Japan, 5-2, to capture the 2015 FIFA World Cup. Fortunately for us, the celebration isn’t over and there is still a chance to catch our female soccer heroes in action. In the coming days, the USWNT will play their third and fourth matches on their post-Women’s World Cup tour, with a pair of contests against Haiti scheduled to take place in Detroit and Birmingham.

First, on Thursday night, September 17, the USWNT hosts Haiti in Detroit at Ford Field. That game carries an average ticket price of $74.74, while the get-in price is $13, according to TiqIQ. A few days later on Sunday, September 20, the two sides will meet again, this time at Legion Field Stadium in Birmingham, where the average ticket price on the secondary market is $69.17 with a get-in price of $29.

With such affordable ticket prices, soccer fans will undoubtedly want to catch the World Cup-winning United States Women’s soccer team in action. For those who desire making the trek from a distant location, Hipmunk.com can serve as your one-stop shop for all resources involved in booking the perfect soccer getaway. They have cheap Detroit airfare that can get fans to Ford Field for the ladies’ next scheduled match. In addition, Hipmunk also sports affordable hotel listings in Detroit for those who want to extend the trip, with rooms starting at $51.

Originally, the women’s team was scheduled to match up against Australia but due to complications with their federation, Australia has refused to play, opening up the doors for Haiti. This particular affair, featuring Haiti and the U.S Women’s team, will be their first friendly match in history.

The USA’s history with Haiti in women’s soccer isn’t as extensive when compared to other opponents, but in Haiti lies a familiar opponent that favors the American side. The last time the USWNT tangled with Haiti, they enjoyed an easy 6-0 win back in October of last year during the 2014 CONCACAF Women’s Championship. In this convincing win, Carli Lloyd and Abby Wambach both scored in the first half, while in the second, other members of the U.S. Women’s team got into the act. Meghan Klingenberg, Christen Press, and Morgan would all go on to score three goals, collectively, in addition to Wambach’s second goal of the tilt to put the score out of reach. In the process, the U.S. would go on to secure the 2014 CONCACAF Women’s Championship.

The same team that captured the FIFA World Cup this past June will make its way to Ford Field on Thursday with a key new addition. While Press will miss the match in Birmingham due to a family issue, Crystal Dunn of the Washington Spirit (National Women’s Soccer League) has been added to the roster by head coach, Jill Ellis for both the games in Detroit and Birmingham. The 2015 Golden Boot winner of the NWSL, Dunn was cut from the 2015 World Cup roster, and will look to make an impact for future consideration.

“We are sincerely appreciative to Haiti for organizing their team to come for these two matches and they will enjoy the environments in Detroit and Birmingham,” Ellis said regarding the upcoming pair of games. “For us, it’s another opportunity to get the group together, stay connected, and focus on our performance as we continue to prepare for Olympic qualifying.”
