What an El Clasico win this weekend means to Barcelona

El Clasico is tomorrow and is one of the most viewed games in the world. On top of this being one of the biggest rivalry games in the world, it almost always becomes a critical game to determine the La Liga winner so each team needs three points. Earlier today, we wrote about what an El Clasico win meant to Real Madrid. Now we’re talking about what an El Clasico win means to Barcelona.

Barcelona is all alone in 1st place, three points ahead of Real Madrid. After an early scare from Celta Vigo and Eibar, who took turns at the top of La Liga earlier this season, Barcelona has taken the lead and have been ahead since.

For Barcelona, a win to them is simple, it’ll knock Real Madrid down to six points behind and really have a definitive advantage for the La Liga title. While they still won’t do this, a six point lead will probably give Barcelona a little room to concentrate a bit more in the Champions League. Something that Real Madrid wouldn’t have that luxury if Barcelona were to win.

This also could be Barcelona’s best chance because of Real Madrid’s style of play. Real Madrid plays more of a defensive style now thanks to Rafa Benitez. There’s no doubt Real Madrid is very talented at what to do and even though they play defensively, they can obviously score goals with their firepower of Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale and Isco. But even so, they want to keep this a “relatively” low scoring game and Barcelona, with three of the best players in the world up on the front line, good luck to Real Madrid’s defense.
