PIC: Toronto FC gets last laugh on Jermain Defoe

Earlier this week, Toronto FC and Sunderland engaged in a swap. Jozy Altidore would head back to MLS with Toronto and Jermain Defoe would go back to England and play for Sunderland. Much has been talked about how Defoe was treated in MLS. It’s safe to say that he and Toronto didn’t separate on good terms.

This leads to today. Defoe made his Sunderland debut and started for Sunderland against his old team Tottenham. Tottenham is also in a partnership with Toronto, and was a big reason why he went to Toronto. The planets aligned and gave Toronto an opportunity to take a little jab at Defoe.

Yeah…sounds pretty clear Jermain Defoe is “persona non grata” at BMO Field anytime soon.
