Some scary scenes in Montenegro as Russia’s goalkeeper Igor Akinfeev was struck in the back of the head by a flare thrown by a fan in the first minute of a Euro 2016 qualifier.
Akinfeev was knocked out eight seconds in and had to be subbed out for Juri Lodygin. The game was delayed by 35 minutes as the referee stopped play. It’s certainly an unfortunate and ugly side of the game that is sadly known all too well from different places in the world. Akinfeev was stretchered out and there hasn’t been any new information yet but I hope everything is okay.
