Tottenham Hotspur vs. Liverpool – White Hart Lane – Sunday 8:30 AM et on NBCSN

Possible Lineups
Spurs- Lloris, Rose, Kaboul, Vertonghen, Dier, Lamela, Chadli, Erickson, Dembele, Soldado, Adebayor

Liverpool- Mignolet, Sakho, Lovren, Toure, Manquillo, Gerrard, Henderson, Allen, Markovic, Sturridge, Sterling

This game should be a cracker. Spurs are playing at home coming off a 4-0 thrashing of QPR in front of the White Hart Lane faithful. On the flip side, Liverpool are returning to action after a difficult test against Manchester City. Losing 3-1 at the current champions is not a horrible result but Liverpool have much higher standards and will be looking to bounce back against an in-form team.

Spurs should keep a relatively unchanged lineup as they are fit and in form. Look for Soldado to get a chance upfront with Adebayor; as Spurs will need goals to get all three points. The midfield for Spurs has been a tremendous improvement over last year as they are showing more patience and creativity. They are passing and moving like a team that’s full of confidence. Mauricio Pochettino has shown that what he did at Southampton is no fluke.

Liverpool should come out the gates blazing; looking to silence the crowd and get their previous result out of their heads. The injury bug seemed to be everywhere on the pitch at the end of the City game. Brendan Rodgers has his work cut out picking a fit and cohesive squad. The backline was hit the hardest as three of the four who started against City picked up knocks. Liverpool added depth during the summer and this is the time to see if those players are right for the team. Their new signing, Mario Balotelli could make an impact in this game; maybe he can be a super sub and turn the game on its head.

This game will be won or lost in the midfield. Spurs dominated this territory during their cruise over QPR while Liverpool had their moments against City they were outclassed and out muscled by the likes of Yaya Toure and David Silva. Liverpool have the muscle to stamp their authority in the middle of the park and that should lead to chances for Sterling and Sturridge (the new SAS). Look for Liverpool to try and counter and break up the passing game of Spurs. If Spurs can keep their momentum going and get a great result against a title contender at home; it could set the table for a great season.

Predicition: Spurs 2 – Liverpool 1

Look for this to be an interesting game, an early goal would send it into life. Both teams want the three points but they may have to share the spoils. Spurs will get the result since Liverpool’s biggest area of concern is defense and all the injuries has hurt the defensive chemistry. Spurs get the points at home.
