Andy Roddick Wins Exhibition At BB&T Open In Atlanta, Teams Up with Fish For Doubles

With the qualification period completing this past weekend, the roster is now set for the next ATP World Tour event in Atlanta, Georgia, as the second day of the BB&T Atlanta Open is underway. After the final ATP players earned their way into the field from July 23-25, the opening rounds of the tournament commenced in the beginning of the week, including a special exhibition match played by Andy Roddick.

The singles draw is compiled of 28 players (16 teams for the doubles bracket), and is the first tournament in a nine-tournament series that eventually runs until the 2015 US Open (last major championship of the season). These nine tournaments have a name, the Emirates Airline US Open Series, and it is the 12th year this series has been in existence. With qualifying rounds already completed, tickets on the event’s website are listed for $39 for the quarterfinals, $62 for the semifinals and $65 for the finals. There are other hospitality packages included on the event’s website as well.

The headliner of the tournament is American player Mardy Fish, as he seeks to make a triumphant return to the tour. Fish, who had to take time away from the sport due to severe anxiety issues that was tragically affecting his personal life, is reportedly in a more positive mental and physical shape, enough to the point where he could compete on the ATP Tour again. Fish has drawn his close friend out of retirement to team up with him during the doubles tournament, as Andy Roddick’s talents will once again be on display for the fans. Roddick also participated in an exhibition match against Francis Tiafoe on Monday, where he won the two-set match by a final of 6-3, 6-4.

It’s a pretty unique instance for tennis fans to see Fish and Roddick play together against top quality doubles competition like the Bryan brothers. John Isner will be the favorite on the singles side, as the highest-ranked American player in the tournament is trying to win his third-straight BB&T Atlanta Open title. As mentioned earlier, the Bryan brothers and the Fish and Roddick pairings are the early favorites. No matter who prevails, the BB&T Atlanta Open is shaping up to be a nice showcase for quality tennis action.
