ATP Tour Touches Down For BB&T Atlanta Open; Features Andy Roddick, Mardy Fish

Although the common tennis fan eagerly wait between major championships, the ATP World Tour consistently brings together top quality players to compete across the world. At last week’s ATP World Tour event in Newport, Rhode Island, Rajeev Ram earned a three-set victory over Ivo Karlovic at the Hall of Fame Tennis Championships. The next ATP World Tour event in the United States will be held in Atlanta, Georgia, as some of the world’s best tennis players compete in the BB&T Atlanta Open from July 25th through August 2nd.

The 28-player singles (16-team doubles) tournament is the first part of a nine-tournament series that leads up to the 2015 US Open. The nine tournaments are labeled under the Emirates Airline US Open Series, where the players are playing for a combined grand total of $40 million. According to the event’s website, tickets start as low as $15 for the qualifying rounds, $39 for the quarterfinals, $62 for the semifinals and $65 for the finals.

On the doubles side, the most successful men’s doubles team in history will participate, as Mike and Bob Bryan look to add another trophy to their already esteemed collection. On the singles side, John Isner, the highest-ranked American player for nearly the past three years, is looking for his third-straight BB&T Atlanta Open title. An encouraging site will be American player Mardy Fish, whose tennis career had to be put on hold after severe anxiety issues that eventually led to surgery for a rare form of arrhythmia. Andy Roddick will be coming out of retirement to play with long-time friend Fish in the doubles tournament, but will not participate in the singles. Seeing Roddick back on the ATP tour, even for a brief stint, can be a huge draw for fans remembering his success not too long ago.

Four players will earn their way into the tournament through a 32-player qualifying draw that takes place from July 23rd-25th. A player to watch is American Frances Tiafoe, who has climbed up the ATP rankings and is creating buzz for being the next great American player.
