Brian Ferlin is the latest example of this, as the Bruins signed the 24-year-old winger to a deal recently. He posted six goals and eight assists over 23 games with Providence and played seven games for the Bruins in 2014. He’s a nice developmental prospect who could come off the bench and make an impact, should the Bruins keep him at the pro level or call him up.
Chris Casto Gets a Contract
Chris Casto is another example of Boston’s forward looking approach and the recipe for success.
Also 24 years old, the defenseman played 68 games with Providence last year, scoring seven goals and 23 points while boasting strong defense. Unlike Ferlin, he doesn’t have NHL experience yet, but one has to think the Bruins wouldn’t have just inked him to a two-way deal if they didn’t intend to give him a shot this year.
Adam McQuaid Gets a Key Offseason
For the first time in what seems like a long time, Adam McQuaid isn’t in the headlines because he has spent the offseason recovering.
Instead, McQuaid hasn’t been shy about talking to the media and fans about his healthy break. He had offseason surgery in each of the past three offseasons, last year only appearing in 64 games and scoring nine points. He’s a defenseman, though, so his real value was simply in having his enforcer presence on the ice.
From the sounds of it, McQuaid feels and looks great, meaning he’s ready to hit training camp at 100 percent. It’s something bettors will want to keep an eye on as the season nears.
