Nets’ new mascot is ‘meh’

About the only thing the Brooklyn Nets did not steal from the San Antonio Spurs (the team color scheme to be exact) has been their new mascot.

So the Nets and Marvel Comics teamed up to create a new mascot and right away you might be thinking, "OK, cool Marvel is involved. The character should be pretty cool, right?" Well sort of, kind of.

Named the "BrooklyKnight" this new mascot came from, well, nothing has been said on where or why he came or even how he was created. Just the Barclays Arena was built, thumping was heard and instantly the Knight appeared during a Nets game according to the first issue.

The "BrooklyKnight" is no "Dark Knight" that is for sure, and there are many holes in this character. As a self-professed nerd I can say he looks like the helmet the Rocketeer wore and his backstory lacks.

Where did he come from? Was he always buried underneath the Barclays Center? He feeds off energy from the crowd so does that means he is vulnerable to losing Nets' seasons? He also considers it a job well done if the Nets win. So if the team loses, it's all on the Knight? And what is up with that name? Just sperate the two words and call him the "Brooklyn Knight." No need to get all fancy.

Also, as Crossover's John Karalis pointed out, are the Nets wearing their practice gear during regular season games in the comic? Apparently they are.

I am no comic book writer but even I could have thought up of a better back story for this character. Nice try Marvel and Brooklyn but I say go back to the storyboard for this guy.
