Everett Golson No Longer Enrolled At Notre Dame

The Notre Dame quarterback position took another hit on Saturday as it was learned that last year's signal caller Everett Golson was no longer enrolled at the institution.

What started out as rumors on Twitter on Saturday afternoon was confirmed by Notre Dame on Saturday evening to WNDU-TV. Notre Dame spokesman Dennis Brown, citing federal privacy laws and school policy, would offer no further explanation for Golson's departure.

Golson, who beat out Tommy Rees for the job in fall camp last year, completed 187 of 318 pass attempts for 2,405 yards. He threw 12 touchdown passes and six interceptions. Golson also accounted for 298 yards and six touchdowns on the ground.

With the departure of highly touted recruit Gunner Kiel to Cincinnati, it leaves senior Tommy Rees and junior Andrew Hendrix as the main competitors for the starting quarterback job. Rees has more experience, since he served as the starting quarterback for 12 games in the 2011 season and has started 18 games overall in his time at Notre Dame. Hendrix has seen very limited duty the last two seasons, primarily in mop-up situations or emergency relief. He has only attempted 44 passes in his career.

The only other scholarship quarterback on the roster is early enrollee Malik Zaire.
