New Orleans, behind the stellar play of Anthony Davis, overcame a late game surge from the King, LeBron James, and defeated the Cavaliers 114 -108 in an overtime game. This loss marked the second straight loss for the Cavs who are now in second place in the Central Division of the Eastern Conference, behind the Chicago Bulls.
The Pelicans squandered a 13 point late game lead as James showed why he is All-Everything and scored 21 of Cleveland’s last 24 points to send the game into overtime. In overtime, however, everything went the Pelican’s way as they outscored the Cavs 9-3, with Davis leading the way for New Orleans.
James led all scorers with 37 points while JR Smith and Kevin Love added 18 and 15 points respectively for the Cavs in the losing effort. For the victorious Pelicans, Anthony Davis set the pace with 31 points and 12 boards. Four other players hit double figures in scoring for New Orleans, significantly contributing to the team win. The win gave the Pelicans a 5-15 record for the season while loss dropped the Cavaliers to 13-6.
