Popovich named Coach of Month for December

The NBA announced today that San Antonio Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich has been named the Western Conference Coach of the Month for December.

Popovich guided the Spurs to a league-best 14-2 record in the month of December, including eight wins by at least 20 points, marking the best December in franchise history.

San Antonio has a perfect 10-0 record at home in December and have opened the year 20-0 at the AT&T Center, setting the franchise record for best home start. The Spurs have now won a franchise-best 29 straight games in San Antonio dating back to last season.

The Spurs’ 29-6 record ties them for their best 35-game start in franchise history, only overshadowed by the first place Golden State Warriors, who have just two blemishes on a stellar season record to date.

The honor marks the 16th time Popovich has been named a Coach of the Month and he is now the only NBA head coach to be awarded 16 times. Additionally, Popovich has been named Coach of the Year three times.

Popovich and the Spurs will be in Milwaukee tonight taking on the Bucks as they look to go 2-0 in 2016.
