Report: Raptors agree to contract extension with Dwane Casey

Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical reports the Toronto Raptors reached an agreement on a three-year, $18 million contract extension with coach Dwane Casey.

Casey, 59, has been the head coach of the Raptors since 2011 and has a regular-season record of 210-184. Toronto finished with the second-best record in the Eastern Conference this past season, reaching 50 wins for the first time in franchise history.

Raptors GM Masai Ujiri was planning to reward Casey with an extension after coaching the team to its first appearance in the Eastern Conference Finals in franchise history.

“Coach Casey’s our coach for the future,” Ujiri told reporters on Monday. “That’s very easy for us to figure out. That will be done in our sleep.”

Now that Toronto has Casey signed for the next couple of years, it can focus on re-signing All-Star guard DeMar DeRozan, who Ujiri said is the Raptors’ top priority this offseason.

One down, one to go for the Raptors.
