Steph Curry expected to start Game 3, says swollen elbow is ‘fine’

A dive into the stands left Golden State Warriors guard Steph Curry with a nasty-looking elbow, but the swollen bursa sac in his right arm isn’t expected to limit the NBA’s MVP during Sunday’s Game 3 of the Western Conference Finals.

“The elbow is fine,” Curry said, via SFGate.com. “It looks like it has a tennis ball on top of it, but it doesn’t affect range of motion or anything, so I’ll be all right.”

The bursa sac hasn’t needed to be drained, with the Warriors content on allowing the swelling to naturally decrease before Sunday’s game.

The elbow certainly didn’t hurt Curry in Game 2.

He scored a team-high 28 points during Golden State’s 118-91 win, including 15 during a frantic two-minute sequence in the third quarter. The Warriors outscored the Thunder by 12 points during the period, helping the reigning champions even the series with Oklahoma City.

Curry is expected to start and play his usual number of minutes during Game 3, a pivotal contest for both teams.

The elbow ailment isn’t Curry’s first injury this season. In fact, he’s dealt with both ankle and knee injuries during just this postseason.

His biggest issue with the elbow moving forward is likely pain management, especially if the swollen area hits the floor or another player. In Game 2, Curry was upset after landing on the ground following contact with Russell Westbrook. Clearly, pain wasn’t a huge issue, as he hit 9-of-15 shots, including 5-of-8 from three-point range.
