PDP Reaction: WWE Battleground

The WWE Battleground event is in the books. Here’s a quick look back at the event and what I liked and didn’t like.

Sheamus vs Randy Orton

Both of these guys are good at what they do but put them together and I just had no desire to pay close attention to this match.

Randy Orton went over with a RKO. You have to wonder what exactly they are doing with Sheamus. Why give him the Money in the Bank briefcase and then have him job clean in a PPV opener?

World Tag-Team Title Match: Prime Time Players (c) vs New Day

Xavier Woods is fantastic outside the ring. He definitely has a future as a manager if he wants it. Prime Time Players won in a competitive match. Darren Young looked really good down the stretch in this match. I’m a little surprised they kept the tag-straps on the PTP but at this point the New Day doesn’t need them to be over.

Roman Reigns vs Bray Wyatt

Really good match with Bray taking the lead throughout the match. Luke Harper interfered at the end of the match to give Bray the win and re-join him. Love the move bringing Harper back into the Wyatt Family fold.

Charlotte vs Sasha Banks vs Brie Bella

Really good match with Charlotte getting the submission victory over Brie. Sasha came off looking the best here IMO but Charlotte also had some really good offense.

US Title Match: John Cena (c) vs Kevin Owens

I love watching Owens work and he has really good chemistry with Cena. Really great match up until the finish. Cena didn’t need to win this, Owens did. And they had Owens tap out. Wow. I’m guessing they keep this going til SummerSlam because if that’s the blow-off to the feud…it’s a travesty.

The Miz came out and cut a long promo and then the Big Show came out and knocked him out without saying a word and then turned around and headed to the locker room.

World Title Match: Seth Rollins (c) vs Brock Lesnar

Really fun match between Seth and Brock until….Brock hits his finisher and then the lights go out and Undertaker hits the ring. After a year and a half…he has finally decided he’s ready for payback. He kicks Brock in the balls and then chokeslams and tombstones him.

The fans marked out huge. I grew up a NWA fan so the mystique/theatrics of the Undertaker character has never really been something that I was into. The WWE feels they need a pop going into SummerSlam and this is one of them that they have planned.

Overall, this was a really good show from a wrestling perspective although I didn’t agree with the direction they took with a few of the finishes.
