Phoenix Coyotes let frustration damper the end to an outstanding season.
Written by Laura Astorian on .

The Phoenix Coyotes were eliminated last night in game five of the Western Conference Finals by the Los Angeles Kings, bringing their season to a close. In a year where they won the first Pacific Division title in team history and made it to the conference finals for the first time in team history, negativity should not be the focus here. Unfortunately, the press during this round generally hasn't been good for the 'Yotes, with allegations of Mike Smith diving to draw calls and two players being suspended for hits. There was still a lot to like about their postseason, but they might've eliminated some good will with NHL fans after this handshake display:
EDIT -- the video is being stubborn and not embedding. For now, go here.
First off, and this has nothing to do with the players, throwing trash on the ice during the handshake line is pretty much a bush league move. I get that fans were ticked about Dustin Brown's hit on Michael Rozival the shift before Dustin Penner's game winning overtime goal. In an extremely rare moment of me agreeing with Mike Milbury, Hits that sufficiently late should be penalized. You can be as ticked as you want to be at the officials, but trying to pop them in the head with beer cans during the handshake line makes your team's fans (i.e. yourselves) look bad.
Secondly, for all of the love shown to Jonathan Quick in the handshake line -- and that was deserved, because the guy has had a year for the ages -- there seemed to be a fair amount of dislike going on between the Coyotes and Brown. Yes, they're upset about the hit, but maybe discuss it later? Now's not the time for animosity and irritation.
Right after the game when the losing team is still upset probably isn't the best time for reporters to ask questions regarding questionable calls, either. They're going to be asked, I know, but you're still going to catch players at their most irate, disappointed, and generally not happy. Mike Smith was one of those very unhappy campers (via PuckDaddy):
"When Brown gets away with something like that after the whistle — knee on knee, that's a dangerous play. If Raffi Torres gets 25 games for his hit during the play, this guy should be done forever."
Ow, forever? Okay then. What else are you thinking right now, Mike?
"It's disappointing for a season to end like that. It stings. We gave it all we had. We battled hard all season long. It's disappointing we not only got beat by them but got beat by the officials, too."
"It's not just that play, it's all game long. They called us for three offsides in the first period and none of them were offside. [A Kings player] flipped it over the glass — how do all four refs not see that? It's not just this game, it's all season long. They did everything they could not to let us get to this position.
"I'm not taking anything away from the Kings, they deserved to be here, they played hard and they were a tough opponent. But we battled as hard as we do to get to this point, and seemed like everyone was against us. We battled through adversity through a lot of things that went on. But the officiating … if you're going to be reffing in the playoffs, it's tough [with] some of the calls that weren't made tonight."
While probably not as bad as John Torterella's "this game was rigged by the leage to make NBC happy" comments that he was $10K lighter in the pocket for, Smith is still probably going to get fined. The league doesn't like it when people question the officiating that loudly, let alone when they question their motivation. When you're accusing the league of telling the refs that they need to go against the team that the league owns, that might be a bit of a stretch.
Smith and the Coyotes are upset, and rightfully so. No one wants to fall short of their ultimate goal. But maybe a little diplomacy might've been good here, a la coach Dave Tippet. Let the feelings settle. I have pulled for the Coyotes all season long, because I wanted to see them accomplish something great for their fans, just in case the worst happened. They still accomplished a lot, and while not the Stanley Cup, I'm sure that the Coyotes and their fans will be able to look back on this season with pride. Unfortunately for many fans and members of the media, the way that the season ended might be the defining feature instead.
Funny how people see what they want to see. I saw the refs calling the Kings for every little thing, I saw the refs ignoring late and nasty hits on the Kings, I saw dives by the Coyotes and poor sportsmanship that is embarrassing and irresponsible as young players watch and emulate their behavior. The Kings are not my favorite players, but they played well and deserved to win.
I think no team will beat The Los Angeles Kings, especially with Jonathan Quick goaltenting. Go Kings
It is ironic that Ron Hextall is the VP of the Kings and Johnathan Quick is the most placid, laid back, businesslike goalie and the Coyotes have a goon like Smith! I called him a pussy and someone commented that he is 6'4". That just makes him a big pussy.
I was at the game sitting behind the goal and what was not seen on tv was that Quick was throwing out his right hand with the stick and glove at every Yote that passed in front of him making surethat they knew he was there. Happened EVERYTIME!! the 2 BEST GOALIES in the NHL played against eachother and the stats don't lie!!! Yotes came back to play the Kings in the Western Conference. Time to move on and watch the playoffs for the Stanley Cup and may the BEST TEAM win!!
@sassy1. Sassy it's one thing for goalies to poke th back of legs, backs, give shoves etc. It's another thing to raise your stick up in the air, and swing it down as hard as you can to a place on a player that Smith knows dam well is vulnerable. It was obvious his intension was to injure Brown. He knew that without Brown in the line up, the Kings lose a vital part of their team, probably their most important player out there during the playoffs. Sure, I dont care about the usual poking that goalies do, that's part of the game. But the blatant intentional beathdown that Smith was going for is uncalled for. What happems if he injures Brown to the point it ends his carreer? Is that how you want your team to win? I dont think so. The hit that Smith took from Andrew Shaw in the first round wasn't cool, but common, he totally embelished it afterward. He looked like a soccer player that goes down in agony like he's in extreme pain, only to get up moments later like nothing happened, just like Smith did.
@sassy1 Every goalie does that- you just raise your stick and fend them off. That is a long way from the Ron Hextall/Mike Smith hatchet work! But you are right- the stats don't lie and Quick has had a season for the ages. Frankly, the Kings could lose the final in 4 straight and I think Quick is still a shoe-in for the Vezina...
You wan to know what kind of "classy" player Mike Smith is...... look at the slash he takes at #10 Mike Richards just after the series winning goal. Yeah, he might have been frustrated but if he connects Richards might be out for the Cup.
Gotta go peeps. Good luck Kings (c'mon Yotes fans, don't you want the team that took us out be the ones that go all the way because it took the best to beat us!). We'll be back, maybe same time next year. Sorry for the serious post about the Tucson shooting but someone mentioned it and I just couldn't let it go that way.
HOCKEY RULES, BASKETBALL SUCKS (although without basketball, where else could those gang members be gainfully employed!) BASEBALL IS WHAT WE WATCH WHEN THERE IS NO HOCKEY AND FOOTBALL, WELL, IT'S THE SAME AS BASEBALL (DON'T GET ME WRONG, LOVE FOOTBALL AND BASEBALL TOO).
Quick for the Vezina (because Smith wasn't nominated) and the Western Conference is the one to beat this year!
See you in the next.
And by the way, that was Congress woman Gabriella Giffords who was shot in Tucson along with nineteen others, six of whom died including Dallas Greene's (Philadelphia Phillies coach past) 9-year old granddaughter; that's what I mean about keeping things in perspective when your talking smack over a game people! Let's not even go there!
I just realized that even true Phoenix fans have the capacity to look back and realize when they have overreacted. ;-) Now if only the actual Phoenix players could do the same. Phoenix fans....Truce! You did good this year, I'm sure someday you'll be looking down on us Kings fans and saying the same thing. But....this is our year, and we wont live that down for a minute..GO KINGS GO!
And the officiating did suck; it was inconsistent and even the commentators (except that ass Milbury) commented on it.
Wow, I'm disappointed. Are there any true hockey fans out there that understand what really happened during this series. If you watched the games, they were great from beginning to end, pretty much how hockey should be played. Hard, fast and passionate. Both teams should be proud of where they are at. LA outplayed PHX. Quick is great, Smith is great, the two best goalies in the league. ALL GOALIES TODAY ARE CRYBABIES! I didn't say they weren't great atheletes, just crybabies (and if you've played the game beyond age 10, you know that's true for the most part). For all of you calling Smith a pussy, perhaps you should direct that to his 6' 4" frame next time you see him. I've seen him out of his goalie equipment, I don't think I would call him a pussy (maybe I would tell him to quit crying but definately not a pussy).
I've been a Kings fan since 1968 as they were the only American NHL team in the west (Seals in Oakland didn't count!). When the Yotes moved to town, I had to support the home town team. Since the Yotes didn't make it, my next choice did so win-win for me!
I'm freakin' tired of the LA this, Phoenix that BS. WHO CARES! GROW UP! And who the f*#k brought up crime rates and shootings... this is America people, a free society where free will rules until you infringe on somebody else's liberties. This sh*t happens all over America.
Speaking of thugs, not only did they shoot 8 people....they all were girls who got shot...some real tough boys from LA, have to shoot women to show how much less of a man than you could already be....FN THUGS! Riots, shootings, earthquakes, muggings..Kings fit right in!!! Anyway A good run for the Yotes! I'm sure that won't be the last we'll hear from the boys in the desert! GO DEVILS OR RANGERS!!!!!!
@sassy1 Cmon sassy, you must be mike smiths girlfriend cause you both cry like babies! You were meant for eachother! This comment section is for comments about the game, not crime statistics! Which by the way Phoenix is no "city of angels" either where a senator can't speak at a grocery store without getting shot in the face! Look sassy, grab your bucket of KFC and sit your butt back on the couch and watch you're latest episode of desperate housewives til mike smith comes home from getting his vagina waxed!
@johnanthonysalido I have to say that you johnanthonysalida and roblalinde 1 has given me the biggest laugh on these blogs that I have ever had and for that "THANK YOU" Both of you are truly Kings Fans and definently speak your minds (some of it alittle crude) Kudos to you both!!! Say what you will about the Coyotes BUT they are the team of my choice just like the Kings are yours. I am watching the Rangers vs Devils games and either one will play yours Kings..and I will be watching the Stanley Cup playoff as well..BECAUSE I LOVE HOCKEY!! Congratulations to you both on your team..Take care and may the BEST HOCKEY TEAM WIN!!!
@sassy1. Ohhhh.. My.....God!.....Is this the true Sassy1? Well spoken, with a glimmer of friendlyness?. Is this Sassy turning Classy? :-) I'm speechless and for me that's almost impossible. Maybe you're that one flower glimmering in the desert! Well kudos to you too because I get a kick out here going back and forth. You were worthy of responding to, so it was fun. I think most of us here are true hockeyfans, otherwise we wouldnt take time out to talk smack to eachother. I dont have a problem with you loving the Yotes, as I love the Kings. All that matters is that hockey is the best sport ever. Cheers and good luck next year. Go Kings!
@ sassy1. Good story Assy, oh sorry I mean sassy. You see the problem is that you didn't finish the story. The women that wer shot were all big mouth women from the Phoenix are, not too much different than yourself, so naturally, we LA fans hired a thug to get rid of the problem. You can say whatever you want about the Kings, we dont care.We know who the better team is and so do your beloved Yotes. So you're wrong and besides I could never agree with you on anything you say, we'd both be wrong! Cheering for Devils or Rangers? He he he. How pathetic that you cant say GO YOTES! You have to cheer for either of the team that, if your sorry team had stepped up, youd be playing againts. Ahh the irony of it. Stupid Arizonians! I mean you people are proof that evolution can go in reverse! Sassy it doesn't surprise me that you're as dumb as bait and as pissed off as Canucks fans. (St. Louis fans were much more gracefull). Good luck to you out in the sphincter of America.
Late Hit ?? Really ?? .03 seconds after the whistle is not a late hit. And for all the crying his only injury is a charlie horse!! Enough of this cry baby stuff. What was PHX excuse for dropping the first 2 at home ??
THE ASSOCIATED PRESS SPECIAL REPORT: This Just in......MIKE SMITH, the Phoenix Coyotes losing Goal tender, has been seen around down town Phoenix in his goalie gear re-enacting the slash to Dustin Brown by whacking the back of the legs of anyone he suspects of being from Los Angeles. Apparantly, since the NHL didn't pay any attention to his childish remarks about Brown being gone for good from the leauge, Smith took it upon himself to get his voice heard. More details to come.
Basketball- who cares about basketball? I have been a Kings fan since 1986, win or lose, not some Johnny Come Lately Bandwaggoner. I couldn't care less about the Lakers or the Raiders...And what does it matter where you were born- a candy assed whining millionaire athlete is a candy assed whining millionaire athlete.
The Vancouver fans disgraced themselves by rioting after losing the Stanley Cup- Lakers fans did the same- Phoenix fans disgraced themselves by throwing trash at the Kings after they eliminated the Coyotes. Maybe if Rozaval or whatever his name is didn't have a reputation for being a diving pussy- and we saw some of that from the Canucks and Blues too- he might have had a better chance at getting a penalty for the Brown hit. But even then, it was a clean hit. Admit it- the Coyotes didn't score a goal in the 3rd period in any game in the series, that was the real problem! And they were GIFTED two power plays on TERRIBLE CALLS AGAINST DOUGHTY!
Signing off now- gotta rest up and get ready for the Rangers or the Devils... you know, IN THE FINALS??
roblalinde1,michaeltroup, 20footer and peterb18, you all need to head back to L.A. and watch some basketball. Oh wait, there isn't any. I'm sure none of you were born in Arizona, or .... have ever seen an upset player before after a game.. Its only a few months until the Raiders start playing .............
@fastbird78@fastbird78. @sassy1
Hey Fastbird. How you feeling dude? Still hurts? Still sore? Sorry about that. Brown sends much love to you guys, He'll be there for you if you need a shoulder to cry on....Anyway, .It's one thing to "blow off steam", no problem with anyone doing that. It is nother thing to blame the loss on refs and diving and what not. Bad calls went both ways, dives went both ways, rough play went both way. That is hockey, if you dont like it, watch tennis or golf, or instead if watching hockey, go out side and try and gro grass in the Arizona heat Look, blaming it (the loss)on anyone but yourself. that spells nothing but a whinning sore loser. Case in point, at no time during the interviews that Yandle and Smith did, did they actually take any responsabliity for the loss. There was no mention of how they could have done some things better, shown up for the first two games, any of that. It was all " the refs this and the refs that, Brown this an Brown that". Bunch of cryin players. Step back and think, did you really play better than LA? Nope...Did you play better than Chicago and Nashville? Yes, of course you did..How come you're not complaining about bad calls made againts you in either of the first two series? Why? because you won right? Hmmm...And you're right, I am not from Arizona, I have been there a couple times, glad I live in LA, and just so you know, I am not a Raiders fan, nor much of a basketball fan. And you're right, these posts are here for a reason. So with that note incase you forgot. Kings win series 4-1....Yotes can now go and play golf while we continue our quest for the Cup. And again in cause you forgot, you lost those four games because your team wasnt good enough to win them. Pure and simple. The MUCH better team one, the MUCH more deserving team moved on.We wanted it it just a tad more than Doan Yandle Smith and the rest did. We did what had to be done to move on. That is PLAYOFF hockey. That is the road you have to take. Some stay on it, some cant take it, and some find a way to keep going. You didnt, we did. Oh by the way if you happen to know Sassy1 on here, tell her my mom said to kiss her LA ass! GO KINGS!
hey robalinde1..I can't kiss your Mothers ass cuz your head is up it!! Also amazed on how well you are representing the great city of L.A...you know Lawyer, West Point graduate etc..Was it 7 girls or 8 girls that got shot after a game in your great city?? And the shooter I heard was a male??
@ sassy1. Hey that head up the ass was actually a good one. Touche sassy, touche. So on the subject of violence in the city, you mean to tell me that in the great city of Phoenix, no one get's shot? No one's home get's raided for having a meth lab in their garage?(Oh wait, you guys are famous for that). Posting here doesnt represent anything sweetie. From what I have read about the great city of Pheonix and it's surrounding areas, is that its not exactly the sfafest either. So you can point out whatever you want about LA. But it doesnt change the fact that your desert dogs wont be representing the Western Conference in the Finals. Oh one more thing, don't forget my Sierra Nevada.
You're third paragraph should start, "Right after the game when the losing team is still upset probably isn't the best time for reporters, period!". Journalism no longer exists, and the modern media just loves to stir up controversy to boost ratings. The media shouldn't have direct access to the players immediately following a game, and this goes for any sport(although none are played with the level of passion and emotion that exists in hockey). Simply look into the eyes of a hockey player, and you can instantly see that they're in a different state of mind. I would hear the comments of the players after they've returned to reality, and can reflect on the game appropriately. Leave the post-game presser to the head coach! 100% of us have, at one time or another, let our emotions get the best of us. I can look past a few stupid post-game remarks made in the heat-of-the-moment, and be thankful for and appreciate the amazing season they have given us. Thank you Coyotes!
Look at that! It is Thursday the 24th of May and the Coyotes are still out of the playoffs. You would think all their crying and whining and dishonorable behavior at the end of the game would have changes the result...can't wait for next season to see if they put a men's team on the ice this time.
Smith is the last person that can rip th officiating. Are you kidding me?!!! that douche was a total bitch the entire playoffs! As much as I wanted to cheer for the Coyotes and Mike Smith, they made it impossible. Smith took every possible cheep shot and was a little bitch every time someone got near him. He is the one that should be done "forever." F Smith and Doan! Grow up!!! play the game and DON'T EVER DISRESPECT the handshake line. You got beat. Get over it. The Hawks and Preds sucked it up and took it like men when they got beat by the NHL owned officials/Coyotes. Now the Coyotes need to suck it up and shut the F up! Hope they never get there again
PHX fans are just bitter. They never have anything to get excited for. Now that all the fair weather fans have nothing to cheer for they bitch and moan. Doan wants to complain about a cheap shot that didn't get called all he needs to do is go look at the tape of Torres on his mission to hit Hossa. Nuf said.
@20footer That hit that Brown did was uncalled for and if the refs had called it right they never would have gotten that rush and scored so yeah you can understand why the fans are bitter learn the game before you talk
Keith Jones (Jonesy) and Jeremy Roenik, (and Barry Melrose for that matter) said there was absolutely nothing wrong with the hit. Roenik even went so far as to time from when the whistle blew until impact and guess what....less than half a second. There was no call because there was no penalty, come on. The real issue is the Pheonix fans disrespecting the game and worse, the some of the players actions during the handshake. Don't EVER disrespect the handshake line. It shows a real lack of character and lack of accountability. Enough said.
@86dman @20footer What was uncalled for?? Roseval was open for a hit so he got one! The hit was 3/10 of a second after the whistle, so no way Brown could have stopped. Brown is NOT a dirty player, unlike Doan and Hanzal!!! This is hockey you sissy- real men dish it out, AND REAL MEN TAKE IT, not like that, as Strother Martin put it in Slapshot, "this bunch of - PUSSIES!"
I saw Yandle blaming the refs for their loss...This idiot went on to say that he knows that they (refs) weren't wearing Kings Jerseys, but that they (the refs) didn't have to play for them (the Kings)....What a joke this is....I mean, why dont you throw a tantrum like Doughty did too? (I found that ridiculous even as a Kings fan). Serioiusly? Yandle cant handle the truth! They got their puppy ass handed to them...Brown did his job. He has done it this entire playoffs...YOU WHISH YOU could have traded for him when there were rumors earlier in the season. Face it Yotes fan..All the crying about refs was never the issue. The issue was, your team couldn't get it done..They couldn't figure out the Kings forechecking until the last two games. But too late..When a team knows it has to finish team off, it does. That's the playoffs, that's what teams that want it more than the others do. You have to step up, even when you think you already have. Doan is probably the only guy on there I have respect for, despite him telling Brown off at the hand shake. Emotions were high and that is understandable. But the rest of the yotes know that they lost because of who they are, because of what they did on the ice, and because of what the Kings did to win the series. refs dont win or lose games fo anyone. Refs, dont take sticks and play on anyone's lines. Refs get calls wrong, just like players miss passes, hesitate on scoring chances, get bad penalties etc. The entire game is a factor. So dont blame it just on the refs you sorry losers. You got beat. I guarrantee if the shoe was on the other foot, you would be the ones writting this!
Blah, blah, blah, let them blow off some steam, at least we didn't shoot seven people after we "won" a game. They gave the credit to the Kings for winning. If players and fans couldn't complain, then these posts wouldn't be here and neither would you!
You know, I was planning today on going to the Coyotes site and give them a "good job" for a tough series and great season, and that I hoped that their ownership situation would be resolved so they can stay in Glendale. But after hearing all the moaning and groaning from Doan and Smith about how the refs did them wrong for all 4 games and they were bullied around (conveniently forgetting hanzal's hit and smiths chop job) and on and on and on... they and all 30 fans can just stew in their own sweat for all I care. And if the team moves, lets see which King or Ref they blame that on. Somebody please, change Doan's and Smith's diapers and feed them their Enfamil... their crying is really annoying..
Why..You want in? .there's a seat for you on the bandwagon ! We dont descriminate. You know you want to cheer for the better team...
@sassy1 Actually no I'm not! Have been a fan since the 80's and have supported win or lose with dignity and not like a sore loser! Have fun watching the kings in the Stanley cup finals!
Enough said yourself, cowboy99! There is no rule that you have to stop the game if the goalie loses a glove! It is bad enough we have to treat them like fragile little girls as it is- strap your damn glove on tighter! If skaters are not allowed into the paint, goalies should not be allowed out of it. If they do, they are fair game as far as I am concerned and you should be able to run them like any other player- hell, most of them are 6'4' these days, they won't break!
And what about that slash by Smith at the back of Brown's knee?? That can end careers! There is nothing but nerves and sinews back there. It is amazing he is still playing. I have been hacked there before and it can leave you limping for days if you are lucky. The result of the slash- Brown gets an 'embelishment' penalty!
The officiating was some of the worst I have seen in a series, but they were at least CONSISTENT! Hamzal and Donne could have had multiple game suspensions- I have seen it before, so they should count themselves lucky to have been in game 5 at all. I remember watching playoff games in the 1970s that took HOURS because of all the brawling and you didn't see the losing team crying like a bunch of mommies boys... grow a pair!
The Kings have outplayed everyone they have faced in the playoffs, including the Coyotes. You were beaten by a better team- GET OVER IT.
And the behavior of the fans at the end of the game- disgraceful. Where did they think they were, Vancouver!
I am not sure what games this writer was watching, but this series was definately decided by the officials and not the teams on the ice. I am not taking anything away from the Kings, they turned it on in the playoffs. However, that being said, there were many "non-calls" in this last game that should have gone to the Coyotes getting more power play opportunities. How about the slashing that should have been called on the Kings that went across Hanzal's face in the OT and in front of an official at the Blue Line? How about when Mike's glove was against the boards and no official even called TO while the puck was at the mid-line. How about the bording that was not called against the Kings in the first period? There were at least 3 other occassions of cheap shots the Kings took against a Coyotes player in fromt of the officials and all where "non-calls". This whole series has been plaqued by officials that missed calls against the Coyotes but when it occurred against a Kings player the officials were all over it. Don't get me wrong, the Kings are on a roll and have been playing very well. However, I feel the officials did determine the series and may have taken away 2 changes for the Coyotes to win games. In particular game 3 and game 5. When you have to fight the officials all series long there is a problem with the league. This is being talked all over Canada about the significant number of "non-calls" that should have generated powerplay opportunities for the Coyotes. Enough said!
@ Cowbo99...Yet again another ignorant fella that blames the loss on the refs. Jesus what is wrong with you guys? What you dont think any calls went the Coyotes way? The cheap shot Smith took on Brown was a missed misconduct and a missed suspension and a missed fine. I kee hearing The refs blew this and the refs blew that..
GET OVER IT! THE COYOTES BLEW IT FOR THEMSELVES IN THE FIRST THREE GAMES!
Being talked all over Canada? How do you know this? You driving all over Canada taking polls?
YOTES FANS AND THEIR CRYING...= DOUCHEBAGERY!
ThIsis what the Yotes fans should be called. DOUCHBAG NATION..
I don't know if you were old enough to have watched the Kings' playoff against Montreal in the 1993 Stanley Cup, but the Kings won Game 1 and were ahead by a goal late in Game 2 when play was stopped and officials huddled over at the Habs' bench. They then skated over to the Kings' bench, took Marty McSorley's stick, measured it, and concluded it was too curver and was therefore illegal. He drew an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty, the Habs pulled their goalie for a 6-4 advantaged, and scored the tying goal. They then won the game in overtime and the next THREE games on OT.
How did the Canadiens magically know that the stick was illegal? It turned out later that they had access to the visitors' team locker room, sneaked in after hours, and held that "get out of jail free" card when they needed it. Did Montreal get their Stanley Cup revoked? Is there an asterisk next to their victory? Of course not. So don't bitch and whine about a Phoenix team that played dirty the entire series (with the exception of last night's game) and lost to a better team.Do you realize, BTW, that Phoenix did not shoot a SINGLE goal into the Kings' net last night? The first and third goals bounced off Coyotes in front of the net, and goal #2 was shot in by Slava Voynov in a half-assed attempt to clear the puck.
As others have said, "MAN UP." You played great hockey but got outscored in 4 out of 5.
@Cowboy99 I think you may have been watching the same game as the writer of this column! Officiating was bad, both ways!!! Offsides called while the kings had a breakaway to the net, Numerous of no calls against the Yotes in the first two periods that should have been called! Mike Smith could have been called for slashing like 5 times in the series and not one call was made! The Brown hit was legal, as he led with his shoulder and his skate never changed paths or even leave the ice for that matter. THis doesn't even mention the other gifts the officials gave the Yotes in their first two series to even get them where they were in the first place! Find a corner and eat your sour grapes!
Not only was Browns hit legal did anyone else notice that Rozival looked at the bench first before deciding he was hurt? An obvious attempt to draw a penalty. Had the Coychokeys scored while their player was surfing the top of Quicks mask(which would have been a non called interference) would you be complaining about that non-call?
Doughty gets an interference call while his stick is being held but the officating was one sided! Get over it the chokeys and their unsportsman like fans deserve to be golfing now instead of representing the west in the cup!
The Coyotes got at least one powerplay they did not deserve when Drew fell into the net and the officials blew an offside call in THE COYOTE'S favor as well. Smith, you did not lose THE SERIES because of bad officiating- you lost FOUR GAMES because you got OUTPLAYED. And the player that Brown hit took a blatant dive after being tapped by Penner in a failed attempt to draw a penalty. He should be playing soccer in Europe... enjoy the go golf course...
Better team won????? REALLY...The refs won the game..not the Kings, who take acting lessons and do wrestling moves on the ice.... and to purposely injury another person is unforgiveable!!! HMMMM SO THE BETTER TEAM WON!!! LMAO
Wow...Another Yotes fan who cant BARE what happened. WTF is with all these so called fans that insist there was a conspiracy agains phoenix by the refs? So what they got calls wrong...ON BOTH SIDES YOU IGNORANT desert chihuahua! Get over it. When calls went your way did you complain? Nope! If you want to mention acting lessons, then Mike Smith has been hanging out with Sylvester Stalone on "how to look like you got hit really bad and dive graciously to the floor"..Straight out of Rocky! The fact is Mike "dirty-ass-goalie"Smith was the cheap shot artist connecting with Brown on that unforgivable slash to the back of the knees (which incase your dumb ass forgot, he didnt get suspended or fined for), and for the almost connecting slash he took at Richards when the winning goal of the last game went in. Keep crying Sassy, I mean sissy...Because the more you cry, the more we love that we sent your team packing!
@sassy1 The refs were not perfect for both sides. It's easy to look at it only from the Coyotes perspective. Kings were better. Players crying about calls and non calls shows no class. It's hockey.
@sassy1 Your team was the laughing stock of the NHL this playoff season due to the flopping all over the ice! As for trying to purposely injure someone, taking a stick and smashing the back of a players leg and mid section while throwing a fit during defeat in games 2 and 5 is intent to injure, not a clean hit trying to make a play! Obviously you were watching the wrong game...
johnanthonysalido...I was at the game..where were you?? Must be a Kings fan Alot of trash talking.. What happened to the Lakers and the Clippers..I pray that the Kings DO NOT win due to what will happen in LA..burning cars, tearing down lamp post etc etc etc..Happened alot in LA doesn't it??
@ sassy1, I do talk to my mother that way! And she knows I am joking when I do. And she knows how to take a joke, and when we cards together, and she loses, she doesnt blame the lighting or some bullshit exuse like you Yotes fans keep doing. And she does get up and get me a beer, and get's herself one too. She's a Kings fan herself, and when she saw that Mike Smith said brown should be gone forever from the NHL she laughed and said they were sore losers. Even my old mother knows a sore loser when she sees one.
@ sassy1.. Glad you were at the game..Now...like I said before..go back home and back to your kitchen..As for the Lakers and Clippers..Who gives a crap! Oh and when you get back home, make sure you get your husband and your kids to finish off that last batch of meth you desert inbreds are so good at.
@sassy1 Yes I was born and raised in la and am not proud of the way some poser fans choose to "celebrate." I was not at the game cause I live in la, but I was at home watching the game and as it was over I was able to change the channel and watch my dodgers finish of your 11 games back diamondbacks! But at least you still have the suns in the playoffs to root for, right? Oh wait... They've been on vacation for almost a month now! Now go kick rocks cause Arizona has tons of them!
Quit whining, Smith slashes Brown from behind and Brown gets a diving call? You're a sore loser, get over it. The Coyotes only outplayed the Kings in game 4. There were more bad calls against the KINGS on Tuesday then The Coyotes. But I guess if you've never played hockey you wouldn'ty know what the hell you were talkingh about.
rdjoker17...is that your age?? And no I have never played hockey because young man. I am a TRUE FEMALE HOCKEY FAN! Please show some manners and grow up!!
@sassy...My mother is very proud of me thank you. Being a litigation attorney in California and having graduated from West Point Academy before I went to law school, passing my bar, and having my own practice, I too have season tickets and have had them for quite some time. So..Kiss my ass, now dont forget to get me that beer. So you see, in one of your prior messages you mentioned I have a big mouth and little brain. Correct yourself, I have a big mouth, and a very smart brain. Oh by the way...Kings won..You lose. DONE!
Very pathetic and childess to refer to A WOMAN as a slave..I dont drink so you might want to go get your own beer...and yes I am a TRUE FEMALE HOCKEY FAN..sincethe Coyotes came to the valley season ticket holder. You are a Rude, obnoxious and pretty pathetic to write such words to anybody!!! Your Mother should be proud!! DONE
@ sassy1...TRUE FEMALE HOCKEY FAN? GO BACK TO YOUR DESRT KITCHEN WHERE YOU BELONG. AND WHILE YOU'RE AT IT..GET ME A BEER!
@sassy1 so sassy, i will say it for you here. raffi torres' hit is "unforgiveable" and since he shouldnt be forgiven i ask, should he be banned from ever playing again? or do you see it like 99% of the coyote fans see it and say that his hit was legit and what he did was not on purpose. he didnt mean to injure the other "person" right? it was just a love-tap.
Raffe Torres got what was needed. End of story!! Refs won the game last night NOT THE KINGS!!
