To say “things aren’t going according to plan” is an understatement if you’re the Buffalo Sabres. The team has either not qualified or hasn’t advanced past the first round of the playoffs in five seasons, which will soon become six after this season is officially over. Lindy Ruff, a man who has been a fixture behind the Sabres’ bench since 1997, was fired mid-season and was replaced by Ron Rolston. Jason Pominville was traded to the Minnesota Wild at the trade deadline, and now there are rumors that Thomas Vanek may be shopped around. With so much negativity surrounding the organization emotions can boil to the surface.
On Tuesday, those emotions boiled over on Twitter. An exchange took place between Mike Harrington, who is a Sabres beat writer for the Buffalo News, Sabres center Steve Ott, and Erica Halbrook, who happens to be Ott’s fiancee.
@bnharrington stop being a joke, there's no blaming our fans. Just wish it was a great atmosphere for everyone's experience!— Steve Ott (@otterN9NE) April 9, 2013
Nobody is mentioning the fact that the only douchebag here is Steve Ott. He's the poor man's Raffi Torres.
Professional athletes and sports teams take criticism all the time, if she's going to throw a fit or start a fight on social media websites any time Ott or "their team" is criticized, she's in for a long road and she has a lot of growing up to do. I'm glad none of the Blues or their wives or girlfriends have ever embarrassed our organization like this. Good riddance.
@FrozenNotes She said shes not trying to start anything after she criticizes the writer......what?
@JeffreyKleiman And no I did not lose any credibility judging by the number of fans who backed me up. Waist of an article. Ridiculous. Thx
@JeffreyKleiman get out of hand. I do apologize for taking my frustrations out No need to write an entire article, that's a little overboard
@JeffreyKleiman I think we all know my fiancé can stand up for himself I was not coming to his rescue. Talk about blowing out of proportion
@EricaRene4 I'm going to reply to you, but please check the article. What I want to say is way more than 140 characters, if that's ok.
@EricaRene4 @JeffreyKleiman Get over it puck bunny. Instead of getting mad at the internets and acting like a teenager, learn from this experience, which apparently you have not. Welcome to the media spotlight.
@JeffreyKleiman You stuck up for another reporter and I stood up for our hockey team. Fair. Thought we were all on the same side. Goodnight
@EricaRene4 I'm sorry you feel that way, but I stand behind everything I wrote. Have a good evening, ma'am.
@JeffreyKleiman The article was a bit much, unnecessary.
@EricaRene4 Neither am I. I stand by everything I wrote but I'm not trying to start. I hope you and Steve have wonderful lives together.
@JeffreyKleiman I'm not trying to start anything with you whatsoever.
@FrozenNotes Steve Ott? The 3rd man in a fight? Say it ain't so!
