Hockey Fights of the Week: 12/23 – 12/29

It's almost time to close the door on 2013. The last full week of the year didn't feature too many games due to the NHL's holiday break, but there were a few fights worth highlighting.

As we say goodbye to the year that was, all of us here at PDL want to thank you for taking the time to visit our little site. Countless hours go on behind the scenes to make all of this a reality and we're thrilled so many of you stop by regularly to enjoy it.

Now, enough of that gooey show of emotion and on to the fights!

5. Ryane Clowe (NJ) vs Matt Carkner (NYI) – Dec 28

Clowe and Carkner's tilt is more of an embrace than an actual fight. Sure, there are punches thrown, but the majority of their encounter is a whole lot of grabbing and holding. You can probably give the victory to Clowe, but it's clear this fight won't be remembered as one of the year's best.

4. Jamie Benn (DAL) vs Robyn Regehr (LA) – Dec 23

It's usually a treat to watch Benn drop the mitts. You might recall that his bout with Joe Thornton was our #3 fight from the 2012-13 season.

In this one, Benn and Regehr battle longer with their gloves than without, but it's still an angry scrap worth watching.

3. Tom Sestito (VAN) vs Brian McGrattan (CGY) – Dec 29

McGrattan may be the 2013 MVP of Hockey Fights of the Week. Last year's title may belong to Colton Orr, but this year we've highlighted several of McGrattan's bouts and he's performed well in nearly all of them.

Here he fights Sestito in a relatively close battle. It may not be one of McGrattan's best, but his resume over the previous calendar year is beyond impressive.

2. Andrew Desjardins (SJ) vs Kyle Chipchura (PHO) – Dec 27

Wow. Talk about a brutal few punches. Chipchura struggles to even throw a punch and Desjardins knocks him out. While this fight not be the best we've seen this year, it is certainly one of the most lopsided.

1. Adam McQuaid (BOS) vs Eric Nystrom (NSH) – Dec 23

We wrap up our final Hockey Fights of the Week with a vicious fight between McQuaid and Nystrom. McQuaid owns a distinct size advantage and throws more punches, but Nystrom is able to land a couple of big blows at the end of this one.

With that we wish you a happy and healthy 2014!
