Hockey Fights of the Week: 10/1 – 10/6

Welcome to the 2013-14 edition of Hockey Fights of the Week. If you're new to PDL, each week we highlight five of the most memorable and interesting scraps from the previous seven days. At the end of the year we compile our 15 favorite fights in an effort to showcase the best the season had to offer. Here's a look back at the best hockey fights from the 2012-13 season

We now officially turn the page to 2013-14. Will the NHL's new rules on helmets (penalized for removing them before a fight) and visors impact the quality and number of fights we see during the season?

5. Chris Thorburn (WIN) vs Luke Gazdic (EDM) – Oct 1

The Thorburn-Gazdic fight isn't worth getting too excited about, but it was one of the first fights of the new season. Gazdic wins this fight by a large margin due to the fact one of his punches knocked Thorburn's helmet straight off his head. Rock 'em Sock 'em Robots would be proud.

4. Carter Ashton (TOR) vs Jarred Tinordi (MON) – Oct 1

It's safe to say the Maple Leafs and Canadiens don't like each other very much. In a night littered with fights, this Ashton-Tinordi scrap summarizes the animosity between the two clubs. Tinordi wins this one mostly due to the fact Ashton only threw a couple of punches.

3. Radko Gudas (TB) vs Jarome Iginla (BOS) – Oct 3

Now this is a hockey fight. Both men landed some big punches, but we give the edge to Iginla in his first fight as a member of the Boston Bruins. Here the 36-year-old Iginla proves he can still be a formidable opponent when he drops the mitts.

2. Luke Gazdic (EDM) vs Tom Sestito (VAN) – Oct 5

Gazdic has been busy. Here he makes his second appearance on this week's list in an altercation with Vancouver's Sestito. This fight is more balanced than Gazdic's tousle with Thorburn, but we still give Gazdic the victory. We don't know how he's able to see with those long locks, but he still somehow manages to land some massive blows.

1. Ryane Clowe (NJ) vs Tanner Glass (PIT) – Oct 3

Glass was a name we discussed on a regular basis last season. The Pittsburgh forward wasted little time picking up where he left off in 2012-13. Glass tangled with Clowe, one of the newest faces in the New Jersey lineup. This fight wasn't extraordinary, but it was one of the best from the first week of the season.
