Hockey Fights of the Week: 10/7 – 10/13

The first week of the season saw some decent hockey fights, but it was clear players were adjusting to the new helmet rule and trying to get back into the flow of the regular season. The second week was a big improvement as tempers boiled over and we were treated to some outstanding battles.

5. Sheldon Brookbank (CHI) vs Chris Stewart (STL) – Oct 9

Stewart brings plenty of grit and muscle to the St. Louis lineup, but the Blues would probably be better off if he avoided the penalty box and focused more on scoring. That point aside, Stewart's scraps are usually highly entertaining and this bout with Brookbank is no exception.

4. Arron Asham (NYR) vs Patrick Maroon (ANA) – Oct 10

Asham did a nice job in this fight despite a big size disadvantage (six inches and roughly 30 pounds). Unfortunately, it wasn't enough to prove he deserves a regular role with the Rangers as the club placed him on waivers just a few days later.

3. Brandon Prust (MON) vs Luke Gazdic (EDM) – Oct 10

This fight featured lots of jersey tugging, but it was ultimately a big win by Gazdic. It appears he took exception to being wrestled to the ice in the fight's first few moments and made Prust pay with a big blow to end the battle.

2. Craig Adams (PIT) vs Ryan Malone (TB) – Oct 12

We're still not very fond of these bouts which take place just as the game is getting started, but at least Adams and Malone gave us a spirited fight. Adams was roughed up by Malone in this one. Don't be surprised if you see these two tangle again later in the year.

1. Jay Harrison (CAR) vs Tanner Glass (PIT) – Oct 8

We'd like to thank Mr. Glass for being a regular in the Hockey Fights of the Week series. We know he has all of us in mind each time he tosses the mitts. With that being said, Glass absolutely pummels Harrison in this one. The Carolina defenseman held his ground for a decent amount of time before succumbing to some big blows from Glass.
