Rangers GM Glen Sather to undergo surgery for cancer

Many people quip that hockey is just “a kids sport,” that while they are blessed to make money being involved in a sport they love, there is so much more to life. Today is one of those days where we remember that important tenet.

As first reported by Steve Zipay of New York Newsday on Wednesday, Rangers president and general manager Glen Sather will be undergoing surgery for prostate cancer at a New York hospital on Thursday. While Sather and the Rangers were unavailable for comment, a clue that something was awry was the fact that Assistant GM Jeff Gorton was representing the organization during the GM meetings in Toronto. Sather is going on his 13th year in the organization, taking over the position in June of 2000. He will spend a few days in the hospital and his return to duty is unknown at this point.

From all of us here at Puck Drunk Love, our thoughts and prayers are with Sather and his family during this time and we wish him a speedy recovery.
