Washington Capitals will host the 2015 Winter Classic

The 2015 Winter Classic has been awarded to the Washington Capitals, as reported by the Washington Post. The official announcement is expected to come on Saturday morning from the team's majority owner Ted Leonsis.

A location for the event hasn't been determined yet, but a few options include Nationals Park (home of the Washington Nationals), FedEx Field (home of the Washington Redskins) RFK Stadium (home of D.C. United) or Camden Yards (home of the Baltimore Orioles).

The Capitals competed against the Pittsburgh Penguins in the 2011 Winter Classic, winning by a score of three to one. Is it too early to feature the Capitals again in the league's premier event?

Though the Capitals have never hosted the event, they will be a focal point of the Classic for the second time in four years. This point may not matter much considering the NHL created the "Stadium Series" in an effort to place four additional outdoor games on the schedule, weakening the significance of hosting an outdoor game.
