Are the Bruins looking to trade Brad Marchand?

The Boston Bruins may be looking to shake things up following their disappointing exit in the second round of the playoffs. Ideally, the Bruins would need to make a move large enough to change the tone of their roster while still preserving their successful and formidable core. So, who may hit the trade block?

According to a report seen on The Fourth Period, Brad Marchand is a likely candidate. Though he was a key offensive contributor, Marchand’s colorful antics on the ice (bad penalties, taunting, embellishment) have left a sour taste in the organization’s mouth. It may be time to cut ties with the forward.

Marchand still has three years left on his four-year, $18 million contract. He tallied 25 goals and 28 assists in 2013-14, but failed to light the lamp during the playoffs. The Bruins may have been irritated by his lack of production, but it’s the poor attitude and extracurricular activity on the ice that have the team exploring new options.

It’s safe to say there will be plenty of teams out there interested in Marchand. A team struggling on offense will be able to look past his antics in the hopes his positives outshine his negatives. It’s clear Boston has grown tired of his act, but a change of scenery may be what Marchand needs to focus more on his production and cleaning up his reputation.
