Coyotes GM says changes are coming sooner than later

The Arizona Coyotes have sputtered out of the gate and fans are already asking what’s going to be done to get the team back on track. Rumors continue to swirl about whether the team will eventually head to Vegas, but for now GM Don Maloney is worried about putting a winning product on the ice. After slipping to the bottom of the Pacific, are changes coming?

Here’s what Maloney had to say about his team’s start, as seen on AZCentral.com:

“We’re not anywhere good enough the way we’re competing right now. So we need to get better or things are going to change around here probably sooner rather than later.

It’s more likely that we’ll maybe introduce some new players as call-ups, change the mix up, see if that can shake things loose.”

Calling players up from the AHL may be the only option the Coyotes have. The current trade market is almost nonexistent at this stage of the season and any big moves would require the Coyotes to overpay. Considering their current financial status, the club isn’t going to make a big splash and take on new contracts.

Get ready, Portland Pirates skaters. The Coyotes may come calling in the very near future. With roughly 10% of the year in the books, the club knows they can’t fall too far behind and may need to try something different in order to get their team rolling.
