Hockey Fights of the Week: 10/8 – 10/19

Welcome back to Hockey Fights of the Week! In our third year of Hockey Fights of the Week, we will once again highlight the best scraps and bouts from the week that was. We’ll rank our five favorite fights and, like always, we’ll encourage you to offer your feedback in the comments.

5. Mats Zuccarello (NYR) vs T.J. Oshie (STL) – Oct. 9

Here’s an unlikely matchup. Zuccarello dropped the mitts for the first time while Oshie gets in just the third NHL fight of his career. Oshie looks like the seasoned veteran as he pummels Zuccarello in an intense, brutal fight.

4. Cody McLeod (COL) vs Jarred Tinordi (MON) – Oct. 18

Honestly, this isn’t the best fight you’ll see this week (that’s why it’s ranked 4th), but it is one of the more lopsided bouts. McLeod usually holds his own, but here he struggles to find a rhythm and Tinordi capitalizes.

3. Kevan Miller (BOS) vs Nicolas Deslauriers (BUF) – Oct. 18

Not many punches found their mark between Miller and Deslauriers, but this was still a quick, intense scrap. Miller keeps trying to land the uppercut, but it looks like each attempt missed. Try your best to pick a winner, but both men should receive some votes.

2. Ryan Nugent-Hopkins (EDM) vs Dan Hamhuis (VAN) – Oct. 11

It’s pretty surprising to see Nugent-Hopkins’ name on this list. In his first NHL fight, he tangles with Hamhuis following a big hit from the Canuck. It takes a while for the two men to drop the mitts, but when they do, Nugent-Hopkins starts off strong but fades as his inexperience takes over.

1. Clayton Stoner (ANA) vs Zach Sill (PIT) – Oct. 9

This was a great fight to welcome in 2014-15. On the second day of the season and the first day loaded from top to bottom with NHL games, Stoner and Sill put on a show. Despite lacking a few inches and a few pounds on Stoner, Sill has an extremely impressive performance in this fight. Even after losing his feet, Sill rebounds and continues to land big blows. It’s tough to pick a winner here, but Sill’s underdog performance deserves praise.
