Maple Leafs will give 200 tickets away every home game

The Toronto Maple Leafs are one of the most expensive sports tickets around. With that fact in mind, the team’s announcement that they plan to give away 200 tickets to the public for every home game in 2014-15 is worth noting. The fact they’ll do it for each year of the team’s new five-year partnership with Ford may be worth celebrating.

The specifics, as seen on the club’s website, state that 200 tickets will be available for every home game in 2014-15 – a grand total of 9,000 seats. The free tickets will be in the brand new Ford Fan Deck and can be won by engaging through social media and by competing in both online and in-person challenges.

Tip your cap to both the Maple Leafs and Ford. The best way for a brand to make a strong connection to a fan is by offering a positive experience. What could be better than free tickets to a hockey game and the opportunity to win tickets to home games for the next five years? The possibility to win alone should reap huge dividends in terms of social media gains. Factoring in the immense price of Maple Leafs tickets ($300-$400!), this is a promotion fans will be watching.
