There have been plenty of rumors circulating over the last few months surrounding Mike Babcock’s future. The most recent came from the Windsor Star which stated Babcock was about to sign a contract extension to remain with the Detroit Red Wings. Considering all of the rumors/reports/speculation we’ve seen suggesting the seasoned coach is on his way out, the news came as a surprise – especially to Babcock.

Babcock even labeled the report as “fantasy.”

Does this mean Babcock won’t be signing an extension with the Red Wings? No, but it certainly doesn’t rule that possibility out either. The coach has kept his cards pretty close to his vest and it seems unlikely that we’ll hear his decision through a random report as opposed to a more formal announcement.
