The Blue Jackets are enjoying a season ticket sales boom

Things are moving in the right direction in Columbus. Following up a 2013-14 season which saw the team become a formidable opponent in the East, the Blue Jackets are enjoying a nice season ticket boom heading into 2014-15.

According to the Columbus Dispatch, the Blue Jackets have sold over 10,000 season tickets for the first time since 2009-10. This is a pretty remarkable accomplishment considering they recently hit a franchise-low just two years ago.

To put this in perspective, the Blue Jackets’ best mark came in the team’s second year when they sold roughly 13,000 season tickets. Their low was in 2011-12 at about 7,000 season tickets. Though the Blue Jackets still have a ways to go before they come close to their all-time high, cracking five digits is an impressive plateau to reach.

There has been a ton of speculation in the NHL regarding expansion and relocating various teams, but Columbus shouldn’t be on that list. Several other teams would be wise to follow in Columbus’ footsteps when it comes to rebuilding. Even after dealing away their most marketable player (Rick Nash), the Blue Jackets are just as popular, if not more popular, than they were through a large majority of the Nash era.

After years of dismal returns and slipping revenue, the Blue Jackets are back on course in a big way.
