Alex Ovechkin is the all-time Russian goal scoring champ

Well it took five games and two overturned goals, but Alex Ovechkin finally scored goal number 484 on Thursday night vs. the Dallas Stars. The 484th goal is significant because he has passed Sergei Fedorov for most career goals by a Russian player.

What’s amazing is that it seems like Ovi has been around forever … and that feeling is cemented by the fact that he has 484 goals. But Alex is only 30 years old. The heights he could reach are astronomical. To think that just 25 years ago Russian players in the NHL were like the Yeti. Now we have a guy, influenced by Russian legends in front of him, who has a real shot at 800 career goals. That’s nothing short of incredible.
