After a week long hiatus from the best and worst column, I am back and thoroughly rejuvenated. Hockey for some reason went on without me and so now I am playing catch up. Let’s take a look at the odd, the great and the down right painful from the week that was.

Best: Andrew Friggin’ Hammond
Damn it feels good to be a hamburglar. Hammond has been on fire recently and has pushed the Senators to not only respectability but towards a playoff spot as well. While it seems as if he has embraced his nickname as seen in the picture above, he now will get free McDonald’s for life. No seriously. Free McDonalds. Now is the time for me to brainstorm and see what kind of nickname will get me some free stuff.
Best/Worst: Ryan Kesler “Between Two Zamboni’s”
Don’t really know what to make of this. It isn’t particularly good but you have to respect the guys for trying. I would suggest you being the judge on this one and giving it a watch.

Yakupov has caught a lot of grief in his time with the Oilers but it is great to see that in his time in Edmonton that he has not soured as a person. While he may have not wanted to have this info to come out to the general public it is nice to see him recognized as the good samaritan that he is.
Worst: Phaneuf mocked for turtling
The Leafs aren’t having a good year. Phaneuf isn’t having a good year. It probably isn’t going to help his reputation at all that he is not being mocked openly by other players as well. You can almost see it on Phaneuf’s face: “My god, when will this season end.”
Best: Marc Methot doesn’t like sleeves

In one of the odder hockey video’s ever, the guys over at Bonk’s Mullet showed us how to properly photoshop sleeves on the perpetually sleeveless Marc Methot. I kept wanting to look away but was amazed by this tutorial. I think you will be too.

The Sharks have to be one of the oddest ongoing stories in the NHL, right? Wilson in a season ticket holders event talked about the “overhaul” they went through over the summer by bringing in some truculent players and stripping Thornton of the captain title. When Thornton was asked about Wilson, plainly he said “He needs to shut up.” This sounds like quite a healthy relationship, I am sure long term it will TOTALLY work out.
