Best and worst of the NHL: Week 26

After sipping on some adult beverages this past weekend and having a relaxing weekend away from the real world, I have come to bring you some of the best and worst of the National Hockey League (shouldn’t it really be the International Hockey League, the league is in two countries all things considered. This is a conversation for another day though.)

Any tips? Email me at sblaze17@gmail.com.

Best/Worst: Curtis Lazar Hamburger Helper

It doesn’t get a whole lot weirder than what has been happening around the Ottawa Senators this year. A team that was virtually written off by the All-Star Game has found themselves back in the playoffs as of this writing. Dealing with an internal budget that many on the outside have found crippling, they have overcome it all to finally put themselves in a position where they get… hamburgers thrown at them? Andrew Hammond is the real story of this late season push but Lazar has taken advantage of this situation by indulging in some sweet, sweet ground beef.

Worst: Rest in peace Matthew Wuest

Matthew Wuest, creator of Capgeek, an invaluable resource for all interested in hockey, passed away this week after a two and a half year battle with colon cancer. While his work will be missed, it is utterly heartbreaking to see such a talented reporter taken from our world at such a young age. I speak on behalf of the PDL staff, when we wish the Wuest family and friends all the best during this tough time.

Best: Hamburglar Nation

Did you catch that transistion? Yep that is the Senators mascot with a Hamburglar mask on. No, you cannot erase that image from your brain.

Best/Worst: Darren Helm roadside delivery

Helm is now a father! Congratulations! The story is a little more than meets the eye. Helm, who is known for his swift skating will now have a daughter who will forever be associated with a swift delivery. His wife Devon found that in the middle of the night that the baby was coming a week earlier than anticipated but also found that the child wanted to come ASAP. While the Helm’s were able to deliver the baby safely, they learned how they dodged a bullet later from their doctors and just how rare the situation they found themselves in was.  All the best for the Helm’s moving forward!

Best: Max Pacioretty Troll Level: High

Bostonians eating a Pacioretty burger and enjoying it. I can’t believe it! What next eating Subban fries? A Price shake? When will this madness stop?!
