Best and worst from the NHL: Week 23

The trade deadline has come and gone with a bunch of fanfare, making my job to write the best of the week extremely easy.

Worst: Toronto Media

Phil Kessel is upset, you won’t like Phil Kessel when he is angry. Week after week it seems like something is coming out about the Leafs, whether it be rumor mongering or real actual news but they are never boring. I am truly hoping at some point that Kessel goes full Terrell Owens and starts giving a tearful soliloquy

Best: Whimsical Eddie Lack

The Canucks have had deadline day drama in the past involving goalies and Eddie Lack has decided to show his happiness via Twitter. Ryan Miller looks none too happy about being photographed but luckily Lack will keep him young and hopefully rub some of his strong play onto Miller come playoff time.

Best: The Leopold Family

The Blue Jackets had a rough deadline day but they were able to grant the request of a former players daughter. When a child needs their father nothing in the world is more heart breaking then that sentiment. The letter was just a cherry on top to make this one of the best stories of the whole deadline.

Best: Olli Jokinen is old

Olli Jokinen is an old man who wanted out of Toronto and he eventually got his wish but before that he was able to have a discussion with Sergei Gonchar discussing how the rough and tumble side of hockey is not for them anymore. I don’t blame you guys, I do not blame you.

Best: Minnesota Wild “Let It Go”

Minnesota Wild had a morning skate today in Colorado while watching the movie Frozen

When participating in a morning skate, you may need to keep it light or in some cases you need to catch up on year old pop culture references. When you have a big screen like that you have to take advantage of it, right?

Worst: Cody McLeod

Hey everyone go take a look at Cody McLeod, he is trying to win the biggest dirtbag in the NHL award!

Best: Corey Tropp disallowed goal

A fourth line plug scores one of the prettiest goals of the year and you don’t count it? C’mon NHL!

Worst: Glenn Healy

Players tweeting at analysts will always be great entertainment but in this case you have a seasoned vet sticking up for a non-traditional market. Florida is sticking around in the playoff race and showing their worth, do your thing Willie Mitchell.

Best/Worst: Florida’s goalie situation

Goalie

In one of the weirder moments in recent memory the Panthers did not have a goalie for a short period of time. At multiple times last night they played a couple of their injured goaltenders to try and alleviate the situation. They almost had to rely on Derek McKenzie and Rob Tallas who hadn’t played in the NHL since 2001. What a world we live in.
