Vincent Lecavalier’s time with the Philadelphia Flyers has been a disaster. The 35-year-old regularly spent time down on the Flyers’ fourth line last season and posted just 20 points in 57 games. That’s a big problem considering he carries a $4.5 annual cap hit and was paid a salary of $6 million in 2014-15. The Flyers have made it extremely clear they want to trade away Lecavalier, but to date they’ve had no luck and it looks like they’ll enter 2015-16 with the forward on the roster.
Via CSN Philly, Flyers GM Ron Hextall states that the Lecavalier situation is “status quo” and he’s planning on going into the season with Lecavalier.
“We’re status quo. We’re planning on going into the season with Vinny and see what happens. Do I get a call with interest? I don’t know. At this point, we’re status quo.”
The Flyers recently paid out a $2 million bonus to Lecavalier on July 1st and had hoped that an interested team might come calling once the bonus was covered. That lack of interest is likely because Lecavalier still has three years left on his five-year, $22.5 million contract and is owed another bonus of $500,000 on July 1st, 2016.
It’s possible the Flyers might find a suitor for Lecavalier once training camp opens and as teams cope with injuries and the need for veteran experience, but any potential trade would require the Flyers to eat at least a portion of Lecavalier’s salary.
