Hockey Fights of the Week: 1/5 – 1/11

Everyone loves a good, lengthy hockey fight. Usually the more balanced the better, but sometimes it’s extremely satisfying to see a fight which has one clear winner. This week’s list is loaded with lopsided bouts, so put down your scorecard and get ready to watch some brutal victories.

5. Tim Gleason (CAR) vs Barret Jackman (STL) – Jan. 10th

Jackman was involved in a nasty collision and Gleason wanted to give him a piece of his mind. Though Jackman’s awkward hit was probably accidental, he still was willing to drop the mitts and let Gleason settle the score.

4. Colin Greening (OTT) vs Wayne Simmonds (PHI) – Jan. 6th

Greening isn’t too bad in this fight, but he looks a bit overwhelmed against Simmonds. We’d estimate that Simmonds threw twice as many punches and connected on a much higher percentage of his blows than Greening.

3. Matt Martin (NYI) vs Mark Fraser (NJ) – Jan. 9th

A lot of fights around the NHL lack emotion and fall into the “scripted” category. This Martin-Fraser scrap isn’t one of them and is the third installment between the two men over the last four years. Full disclosure: We can’t help but root against Fraser simply for the “down goes Fraser” joke no one ever laughs at.

2. Chris Stewart (BUF) vs Mark Fraser (NJ) – Jan. 6th

It wasn’t a good week for Fraser. Prior to his beating at the hands of Martin was this tussle with Stewart. This was a reunion of sorts as Fraser and Stewart previously dropped their gloves back in 2005 when both men were in the OHL.

1. Mike Fisher (NSH) vs Nate Prosser (MIN) – Jan. 10th

Does Prosser even throw a single punch? If he does, it’s difficult to see through Fisher’s relentless assault. This may be one of the most lopsided fights of the season.
