Jamal Mayers calls out the media over Blackhawks locker room report

There have been some pretty wild trade rumors circulating around the Chicago Blackhawks and Patrick Sharp. Though trade rumors are surrounding just about every NHL team as the deadline nears, the ones involving Sharp and the Blackhawks were a bit more personal.

Numerous outlets reported that there was some serious tension in the locker room and some rumors went a step further citing the tension was due to Sharp sleeping with his teammates’ significant others. Later, reports surfaced discrediting the stories above, but that hasn’t slowed the trade rumors.

Jamal Mayers, former NHL player and current Comcast and NHL Network analyst, sounded off on the rumors and called out the media for fabricating the story.

It’s worth noting that though the dressing room fight may have been interpreted incorrectly, the trade rumors appear to be just as strong as ever.

Mayers concluded his rant with an insult that’s reserved for the blogging community.

Ah yes, the ol’ mom’s basement line.

What’s noteworthy here is that numerous media outlets (read: non-bloggers) reported the dressing room story. This wasn’t something only seen on a small local blog. Obviously Mayers didn’t check to see where the story ran before going on his rant. This topic was widely reported and discussed on some huge outlets and when doubt surfaced it was then also widely questioned on the same outlets.

It’s unfortunate if this whole situation turns out to be nothing but a fabrication, but Mayers’ argument basically loses all of its credibility when he pulls out the tired basement line.
