Red Wings rename trophy to honor late CapGeek founder

CapGeek was an amazing website and the hockey community lost a valuable asset with the passing of its founder Matthew Wuest. Countless tributes were posted online honoring Wuest and recognizing just how important his contributions were to the sport of hockey. The Detroit Red Wings have joined in that effort, renaming their trophy for the NHL Prospect Tournament to the Matthew Wuest Memorial Cup.

What an awesome gesture by the Red Wings. Other websites have popped up for fans looking for salary information, but they’re all simply following in Wuest’s footsteps. Gary Bettman and the league continue to deny fans have an interest in this type of information, but it’s great to see one NHL team honoring Wuest and his work.
