According to The Fourth Period, Slava Voynov has been released from jail after serving 45 days. Voynov had been given a 90-day sentence after pleading guilty to a misdemeanor charge of corporal injury to a spouse. The news, if factual, contradicts an earlier report in which NHL Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly stated Voynov wasn’t going to be released quite yet.
It’s worth noting that Voynov’s living conditions probably aren’t the ones you’d normally think of when the word “jail” is thrown around. He reportedly was in a “luxury jail” which had a lot of the comforts of home.

The detention center charges $100 a day, advertising flat-screen TVs with cable, a media centre and brand new beds as part of the pay-to-stay program. A $50 application must be filled out and a one-on-one interview is scheduled to review details of the case in question.
Prisoners are also allowed to bring in a number of personal items such as an inexpensive watch, five photographs and $100 in cash for small purchases.
What happens next? Voynov will have to complete a 52-week domestic violence prevention program and he has some community service time (eight hours) to serve. Beyond that, his future in the NHL remains a mystery. The league has yet to take a firm stance on the matter – their investigation is likely still pending – which adds further confusion as for as what his playing career holds.
While it may not be fair to fully assess Voynov and this situation without all of the details, it certainly seems like he got off pretty light. A 90-day term seemed like a slap on the wrist and the additional news that he only served 45 days while in a luxury jail should be widely berated.
