The NHL on Twitter is mostly really fun. Accounts from teams like Vancouver, Los Angeles and the New York Rangers all really make the environment great, through sharp banter, funny images and just keeping things light. While NHL teams can produce some sick burns of their own, sometimes being playful can come back to bite you, as the Pittsburgh Penguins learned today.
The official account for Discovery Channel sent out this tweet on emperor penguins last night. It was an informative post, about educating people on how big they can grow. Simple, educational stuff.
On average, emperor penguins grow to be 3.8 feet tall >> http://t.co/HpD6bwgzhQ pic.twitter.com/PgLuwLYuBB

The Pittsburgh Penguins Twitter account for some reason wanted to have some fun with that, and made this harmless joke.
@Discovery As of May 13, 2015, the average Pittsburgh Penguin grows to be 6’1”.

Somebody at Discovery must not be a Penguins fan because they unleashed this impressive response.
@penguins Strange. Our latest observations show no Penguin activity currently on ice in Pittsburgh. Where did they go?

If they were playing Pokemon, the Penguins would be in desperate need of a burn heal.
The Penguins set themselves up pretty good on that one, although I’m not sure they expected Discovery, of all places, to try to incinerate them – which they totally did. While hockey Twitter can be a messy place sometimes, it’s fun stuff like this which makes it worth being a part of.
I don’t see the Penguins social team tweeting in the future about something that can set them up this bad without thinking long and hard about it. Well played Discovery.
