Video: Refs mic’d up for Andrew Shaw’s headbutt “goal”

Andrew Shaw’s headbutt “goal” was pretty amazing, but it didn’t count because he didn’t make a legal play to put the puck in the net. So, what were the officials saying down on the ice while reviewing the remarkable play? Aside from deciding it didn’t count, they were pretty impressed too.

The refs admit that Shaw’s play was awesome. Fans agree. Even Ducks fans who were glad the goal didn’t count praised the effort. Should this play count as a goal in the future? That topic will probably come up in an NHL debate in the near future, but it won’t be an easy decision. Shaw’s effort was incredible and probably deserved to win the game for Chicago, but relaxing the rules may result in more skirmishes in front of the net and that may have dangerous consequences.
