Video: Rick Nash scores without ever shooting the puck

When you are a superstar in this league, you are expected to do it all. When it is all going your way you don’t have anything to complain about but when it falls apart you draw the ire of an entire fan base. This is a concept that isn’t new to Rick Nash, who used to be the face of the Blue Jackets franchise and now is the face of the Rangers franchise. He has had a couple of subpar playoffs with the Rangers the past few years and he was slow to get out of the gates this season.

He finally scored his first goal … in unusual fashion.

Nash is awarded the goal, but how?

Rule 25.1 states

“That if a player has possession of the puck and doesn’t have a defender between himself and an empty net with the goalie pulled, he’s awarded a goal if he is prevented from scoring as a result of an infraction committed by the defending team.”

It is always nice to break a streak of bad luck but it has to be doubly nice for Nash who was able to set a milestone too with his 700th point.
