Here’s a play which will make you cringe. Stephen Gionta received a five-minute major penalty and a misconduct for spearing Mark Borowiecki in an all too sensitive place.

Gionta clearly felt like Borowiecki was trying to target him with a late hit, but the retaliation far exceeded anything which should take place in hockey. He also looked pretty surprised when Borowiecki hit the ice … but we’re pretty sure that’s a fair response for a guy who took a hockey stick to the junk.
It’s a safe bet that Gionta will be hearing from the NHL about this one.
