With Western Conference Finals Shifting to Chicago, Ticket Demand is Sky-High

After a historic ending to Game 2 that saw the Chicago Blackhawks win 16:12 into the third overtime period, the Western Conference Finals shift to Chicago for what promises to be the toughest competition the Blackhawks have seen at home so far this post-season.

Chicago hockey fans are notoriously passionate, but following one of the most thrilling post-season wins in recent memory, fans are even more fired up than usual. The wild ending in Game 2 saw Marcus Kruger get the puck past Frederik Andersen for a 3-2 win to end the longest game in the Blackhawks 89-year history as well as the 17th longest game in NHL history. The series now shifts to Chicago’s United Center for Games 3 and 4 with the puck drop scheduled for 7p.m. central on Thursday.

As the Blackhawks look to go up 2-1 in Game 3, hockey fans gear up in Chicago for the Blackhawks third Stanley Cup title since the 2009-10 season and are ponying up big bucks to be a part of the action. According to TicketNetwork, the average Ducks Blackhawks ticket price for the Western Conference Finals Game 3 is $350, while the get-in price is $93. Much of the outcome of the series will be determined by the matchup of team captains, Chicago’s Jonathan Toews and Anaheim’s Ryan Getzlaf, two of the more gifted centers in the NHL, as well as which goalie can keep the puck out of the net. The Ducks’ Frederik Andersen has been playing great, especially during his incredible save on an open shot by Patrick Kane, but Chicago’s Corey Crawford already has a title to his name.

Since 2008, the Blackhawks have been one of the most successful post-season teams in the NHL, with 65 playoff wins. But in Getzlaf and Ryan Kesler, the Ducks have two of the most well equipped leaders in the NHL. With a very deep bench, the Ducks are going to be tough to beat.

While the Blackhawks took the season series 2-1, the Anaheim Ducks are the No. 1 seed while Chicago Blackhawks are No. 3. But we all know the NHL playoffs are a different animal. En route to the Western Conference Finals, the Ducks swept the Winnipeg Jets in the first round and beat the Calgary Flames in five games in the second round. The Blackhawks beat the Nashville Predators in six games in the first round and swept the Minnesota Wild.
