TQBR Radio 1/20: Rios Vs. Alvarado III Preview With Brin-Jonathan Butler

It’s true that boxing has a funny way of bonding two men who steal life from one another inside of a square ring, but even so, sometimes a pair of fighters compliment one another so well when the action begins, that the rest doesn’t matter. You’d think two fiery characters like Brandon Rios and Mike Alvarado would clash and butt heads outside of the ring. And you’d be wrong (photo via).

The two have strong personalities and plenty of flaws (see here and here), but the savagery of their two previous encounters spent all the animosity they could possibly demonstrate toward one another outside the ropes, it seems. There may be varied opinions of whether the bout is “world class” or not, but the style match up is, and probably always would be.

This week on Queensberry Rules Radio, James Foley of Bad Left Hook and Patrick Connor of TQBR welcome Brin-Jonathan Butler back to the show to discuss this weekend’s rubbermatch between the two madmen on HBO. But also on the agenda — and important — are Deontay Wilder’s win over Bermane Stiverne on a solid Showtime card, boxing’s return to network television (thanks to Al Haymon), and much more.
