Boxing Returns to MSG With Klitschko Fight This Weekend

Some things just get better with age. That could easily be argued for IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko. The 38-year old Ukrainian puts his formidable 63-3 record (53 knockouts) to the test against challenger Bryant Jennings (19-0, 10 KOs) when the two go toe to toe at Madison Square Garden on HBO Championship Boxing on April 25th.

Despite climbing the ladder in age, Klitschko remains a dominant boxer, as he’s successfully defended all of his titles in every fight since 2005. Klitschko hasn’t tasted defeat in quite some time, either, with his last true loss coming to Lamon Brewster in 2004. That gives the Ukranian the second-longest championship reign of all-time, and he’ll look to extend history against the feisty and equally impressive Jennings.

Jennings may not be the huge name Klitschko is, but he’s worked his way through an undefeated career to this point and appears to be up to the challenge of taking down boxing’s heavyweight champ. The 30-year old American lost just four of 17 bouts as an amateur, and used that success to spring him to a whole different level as a professional boxer. Since stepping into the ring with Zeferino Albino for his pro boxing debut in 2010, Jennings has gone on a five-year rampage where he’s piled up 19 wins and 10 knockouts. During that run, Jennings has secured the the Pennsylvania Heavyweight Title and the USBA Heavyweight Title, which he also successfully defended in a 2012 match.

As far as Jennings has come, it’s arguable nothing could have truly prepared him for Klitschko, who is as seasoned as they come and brings dangerous size and power to the table. Klitschko versus Jennings tickets will be in high demand, of course, if for no other reason than to witness one of boxing’s greatest upsets, possibly of all-time. One thing that will be inexpensive is NYC parking, which starts at just $10 on ParkWhiz. Klitschko is tough to root against due to how great of a boxer he is, but USA folk will likely be cheering on Jennings to see an American snag the lineal heavyweight title. In addition, Klitschko has defended his current string of titles for longer than Jennings has even been around at the professional level. Starting his career just five years ago, Jennings will probably enter the ring a mammoth-sized underdog.

Being an underdog obviously doesn’t bother Jennings, however, and he’s openly admitted that boxing fans could be in for a complete toss-up. Jennings suggested as much, saying,”Either I’m going to knock him out, or he’s going to knock me out”. That might be the truth, and that’s precisely why boxing tickets are going to carry so much value for this epic showdown. Whether a dominant fighter rages on with yet another title defense or a rising star defeats the odds, all eyes will be on the ring when Klitschko vs. Jennings goes live.
